Largs is a busy town with a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars. There are many activities to keep all ages entertained including a swimming pool with a fitness suite and indoor play area, putting greens, golf courses, ten-pin bowling, walking, cycling, fishing, children's play parks etc.

There is a train station with hourly services to Glasgow and the Ayrshire coast. Buses for other towns and for the Braehead shopping centre near Glasgow leave from the centre of Largs.

Largs has a fascinating history to tell. Just to the south of the town lies the site of the Battle of Largs where in 1263 Alexander III fought off the Viking fleet which had crossed from Arran. This ended the Norse invasion of Scotland. The Viking Experience at Vikingar! has interactive exhibits with storytellers telling Viking tales and myths, and a 20 minute film about Vikings.

Kelburn Country Park (off A78 coast road 2 miles south of Largs) is a great day out for all the family. Some highlights include the 13th century castle which is still the family home of the Earl of Glasgow, exotic gardens, the Secret Forest, nature walks, falconry, horse riding etc.

The Isle of Cumbrae is only 10 minutes on the ferry from Largs and is a great day out for all the family. Visit the town of Millport with its beach, park, shops and cafes/bars. From here you can hire bikes and cycle around the island.  The island is also great for walking and is home to a variety of birds and wildlife.

You can catch the ferry to Arran from Ardrossan, which is about 12 miles south of Largs on the coast road. Arran is renowned for its wildlife and many species are a common sight, from Roe deer to Basking Sharks. The pretty villages on Arran's beautiful coastline are complemented by a rugged and mountainous interior in the north and green rolling hills and woodland in the south. Arran's terrain is ideal for walking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits.

During the summer months the Waverley (The world’s last sea going paddle steamer) is a regular visitor to Largs. Take one of the varied excursions available and explore the beautiful west coast.
